Green slime spilling out from a flashlight on a textured surface.

There's a broken canister of mutant ooze leaking down into the sewers! But don't worry because this sticky slime is non-toxic, and it's so easy to make, a three-year-old can do it!

Inspired by Dr. Anne Helmenstine with About.com, my kids and I found and slightly modified a recipe for making slime!

My kids went crazy for it! It's great stuff because it's basically harmless and extremely easy to make. So easy, in fact, that my little 3-year-old did it himself (with a little coaching, of course).

If you'd like to make it at home, here's how we did it!

Gather Your Materials

You will need:

  • 1/2 teaspoon borax laundry booster
  • 5 ounces clear school glue
  • Green and yellow food coloring
  • Water
Borax detergent booster and various colored glues on a table.

Make Solution "A"

In one container, mix:

  • 1 cup of warm water
  • 1/2 tsp of borax

Stir to dissolve as much as possible.

Make Solution "B"

In a separate container, mix together:

  • 1/2 cup of water
  • Entire 5 oz bottle of clear glue

Then:

  • Stir in 2 drops of green food coloring
  • Stir in 5 drops of yellow food coloring

Stir it all together for a slimy green-yellow look.

Holding this in front of a light makes it look like some sort of creepy alien experiment!

I wanted to make a cool looking container for this ooze, so using some ABS fittings and a 2-liter soda bottle, I got a fairly authentic looking ooze canister.

With the ooze inside the container, I tried adding a yellow glow-stick to see what effect it would have.

It made the slime glow an eerie green light!

That's how to make your very own Ninja Turtle Ooze.
