That's a jeweler's oxy-acetylene torch. The super bright light produced coincides with the torch being adjusted into "cutting" burn. .. this is a highly oxidized flame that reaches temperatures well in excess of 2000 degrees Calvin. That seems no different from the same intense light produced when a cutting flame is applied to any non refractory material. The lime in this project seems completely inconsequential. Furthermore the cost from oxygen supplies for preforming this exhibit seems ludicrous to have wasted.
