Dissecting a Human Head Through Anatomical Illustrations

May 27, 2011 05:00 PM

Human anatomy is something every physician must undergo as a medical student. Some move on to become great doctors, some move on to become great artists, helping to better educate students and improve upon many illustrated representations of the human body since the days of medieval medicine. But thankfully, you don't have to be in the medical profession to enjoy the beautiful art of the human body created for teaching purposes.

In the past, we've featured many human anatomy posts, from anatomical pop-up books to intricate paper models, but there's an unfathomable beauty to the human head and its inner workings that warrants its own gallery.

Scientific Illustration is a blog devoted to showcasing medical drawings from around the world. Aside from human anatomy, it also presents other anatomical sketches, including dogs, jellyfish, dinosaurs, flowers, and bugs. But for this post, we'll focus on the intricate artistic renditions of the human head, brain, and surrounding regions. Check out the archive for other science-related art.
